The “hobby” business model

There are signs that will indicate whether a business owner has created and is growing a business, or whether they have created a vessel for their lifestyle choice or hobby.

Choosing a business as a lifestyle can be a sound way to live and works for many people, it can be a perfect balance for anyone that has paid off their mortgage and is looking to ‘keep a hand in’, working when they want to, as a part-time entrepreneur. It can provide the ‘ideal’ work/life balance.

The problem arises when the business owner has deluded themselves into thinking they can create a business just because they have a specific knowledge or skill: To know is not to run.
